Nature in Its Natural State: Post 07- Lake Erie Living

Josh of The Bike Ninjas lets everyone in on the secret to acheiving relief from the stress of the city.

Well hello again.

Whew!  Summer is in full swing already, is it not?

I told you in my last post that I wanted to start opening up the field a little bit.  Write about a larger area in terms of places you can go and come back within a day. And also in terms of ideas for topics and ways to present the topics too.  I am a daytripper from way back, and this post is about one the coolest places in the general Cleveland area to spend a whole day exploring, one that someone introduced me to when I first moved here.

This place is a state park, butts against two nature preserves, is seperated from a harbor by a breakwall, has natural dunes, has the largest sand beach in Ohio, sits on a 1700 mile hiking trail, borders a National Natural Landmark, and is truly the last of its kind anywhere around this area.

I am talking about Headlands Beach State Park in Mentor, OH.

The place is magical.  It sits on the 1700 mile Buckeye Trail that weaves its way in a circle throughout Ohio.  There are natural sand dunes with trails that meander around them.  There are plants that grow here that don't grow anywhere else in Ohio and some that barely grow anywhere else in the world.  The beach is over a mile long and is the widest beach around too.  There are 400 species of birds that use the Headlands Dunes State Nature Preserve to roost and rest during migrations.  It sits between a more manicured vacation beach area called Fairport Harbor and The Mentor Marsh State Nature Preserve, which is a National Natural Landmark.  It is the only place where I have seen a bald eagle in the wild with my own two eyes.  It is truly a spot you can do some soul-reviving, ya feel me?

So I have included some super cool photos of a few recent trips out to the Headlands.

The Headlands is by far my favorite beach here, but there are many more and they are all sweet.  I have adjusted to Lake Erie Living and with it being swimming season, I decided to show you some of MY BEST LAKE ERIE LIVING PHOTOS showing what its like to have a Great Lake at your disposal every day of the summer!
