Fishing, Cheaper than a Tank of Gas

Fishing, fun for the family and cheaper than a tank of gas!

Well summer has officially started and thank god it started with no RAIN. With gas prices hanging around $4.00 a gallon, a lot of us are going to be looking for fun and CHEAP things to do close to home. Fishing is the first thing that comes to mind (no surprise here, coming from a bait shop owner). Fishing has always been an activity that can include the whole family and with a little bargin shopping, an average size family can find everything that they need for less than a tank of gas.

OK, so now you have your fishing poles, your tackle box and bait, where do you go to find the fish? The majority of anglers do not have a boat and lets face it, renting one defeats the purpose of finding a days worth of cheap entertaiment. No need to worry, Northeast Ohio has tons of lakes, ponds, streams and rivers that will fill any fishermans day with enjoyment by fishing from the banks.

Once known as the river that caught fire, is now known as a enviromental success story. The water quality and the fishing have come up to the point of being one of the best spots for Northern Pike and smallmouth bass and it keeps getting better and better.

Wing Foot Lake State Park

Once the private playground of Goodyear employees and their families is now open to the public. Thanks to the State of Ohio Department of Natural Resources purchasing and opening the park to the general public. The lake is small compared to other lakes in the area, but the size of the largemouth bass and the quanity of the crappie make this a great fishing hole. In October, the state stocked this lake with 3,000 catfish.

There are many small ponds in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Stow, Munroe Falls, Cuyahoga Falls, Hudson, Akron and Kent that are filled with blue gills.

Don't know how to fish, no problem. Feel free to stop in at and we will teach you how or just ask any fisherman that you see standing by a lake or river. You will find that most anglers will be more than happy to show how it is done (we fisherman love to brag and show off our skills)!

So spend the day outside in the clean air, sunshine and sitting beside your favorite fishing hole and you will HOOKED!
