Akron Walks for Autism

The Autism Society Greater Akron Chapter is holding its first annual Akron Walks for Autism, a walk and 5k run to benefit the local chapter of the Autism Society.


Mark your calendars now for Saturday, June 18. Runner and walkers can start forming teams now for this family friendly event.  Go www.autismsocietygreaterakron.org to register!  Details: Saturday, June 18, 2011 at Lock 3 in downtown Akron , the 5k run (3.1 miles) will begin at 8:00 a.m. up the towpath; the one-mile walk will start at 8:30 a.m. and will go to Spaghetti Warehouse’s parking lot and loop around.

In addition to the walk and run, Lock 3 will be full of companies and organizations that will be showcasing products, services, and information related to autism and other disabilities. Lock 3 will also have plenty of fun activities – bouncies, face painting, balloon makers, music and more – for children to make it family and autism friendly.


Early registration is through June 14. For runners the cost is only $20 and includes a T-shirt and giveaway bag. For those participating in the walk, fees range from $9 to $12, which also includes a T-shirt and giveaway bag. Same-day registration, for an additional $10, is available beginning at 7:00 a.m.  Snacks will be provided for all runners and walkers.
