As part of the Reading
Relay, KPMG offices throughout the country are conducting events at schools and
organizations that serve children from low-income families. At each event, KPMG
people, spouses, family members, and alumni, are reading to children and giving each
student five new books to take home with them. Some 130,000 new books will be

distributed nationally.

WHY: KPMG’s Family for Literacy program is devoted to combating childhood illiteracy.  Children who read below grade level in fourth grade are four times as likely to become high school drop-outs.  The toughest roadblock to literacy in low-income communities is a lack of access to books.  Over the past 5 years, KPMG has distributed more than 2 million new books to children in need across the country.
