The race is named the Il Palio Drappo Verde e Rosso, after an ancient Italian race that dates back to the 1200s.

The race begins Saturday at 8:00 am in downtown Akron at Ohio Lock 3, 200 S. Main St. Those interested in running can register online. Participants can choose from a 5K run with ten age group divisions and a 1-mile Fun Run/walk with no age group divisions.

Following the race, participants and volunteers will enjoy complimentary Italian Ice, refreshments, massages and a drawing for free prizes.

Registration is $20 before July 6th and $25 the day of the race. Runners are asked to arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of the race. T-shirts will be given to the first 250 registered participants.

Carol Anne Teodosio Peter, Andrea's aunt, godmother and co-chair of the event, said she is anticipating a large turnout for the run.

"Members of the Teodosio and Tucci family all plan to participate," she said. Many others had already registered for the race last month and RSVPd on the Facebook event page created for the event.

An open group on Facebook was also created in Andrea's memory

"Her boyfriend was my brother and we spent a lot of time together," said Kelsey Zalar, who was snowboarding with Andrea the day of the accident. "She was a best friend, a perfect girlfriend of four years to my younger brother, and such a wise girl beyond her years."

Zalar has held her own fundraisers for Andrea's foundation, already raising more than $2,000. She also donates part of the proceeds from company, Dapper Pooch, to the Humane Society of the United States.

For those unable to participate in the run, donations may be made to the Andrea Teodosio Foundation at North Akron Savings Bank, 158 E. Cuyahoga Falls Ave., Akron, Ohio 44310, to the attention of Tracy Jensen.
