Turns out, it was so popular it influenced the most popular girl's name in 2012: Katniss. 

According to Nameberry.com, Katniss is a literary and botanical name. Katniss Everdeen is the name of the heroine in "The Hunger Games" series.

The most popular boy's name in 2012 was Finn, Nameberry.com reports. Finn is of Irish origin and means white and fair.

In Irish mythology, Finn MacCool is an intrepid warrior with mystical supernatural powers, and was noted his wisdom and generosity, Nameberry.com reports. Finn Hudson is also the name of a main character in the hit TV show "Glee."

The Top 5 most popular boy names also include: Asher, Henry, Milo and Jasper.

The names Emma and Mason were popular among new parents in Ohio in 2011, according to the Social Security Administration. The most popular names for 2012 have not been released.

Emma has a German origin, according to Nameberry.com, and many parents chose it over Emily to give their child a more distinctive looking name, the site reads.

Mason is a English occupational name meaning "working in stone," Nameberry.com reported. The name got a lot of reality-show media attention after Kourtney Kardashian named her son Mason. Several other celebrities chose the name as well, and it's been used in popular TV shows such as "Vampire Diaries" and "Wizards of Waverly Place."
