Unemployment Rate Increases in Summit County

Summit County isn't the only one seeing an increase — all 88 counties saw a higher unemployment rate in January.

Out of 88 Ohio counties, Summit County lands at No. 69 for its unemployment rate in January this year. 

In January 2013, the unemployment rate was 8 percent. In December the jobless rate was 6.2 percent. 

Cuyahoga Falls had an unemployment rate of 7.7 percent in January. In December, Cuyahoga Falls saw a 5.9 percent jobless rate. Last year in January, that figure was at 8.1 percent.

The highest unemployment rate is 15.3 percent in Pike County. Mercer County boasts the lowest figure at 5.3 percent, according to this chart

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services released the statistics on its website Tuesday

According to the statistics, Summit County's figure is comparable to nearby counties:

  • Portage: 8.1 percent
  • Stark: 8.7 percent
  • Geugua: 7.6 percent
