Say Goodbye to Suburban Retro

Due to low sales, the Falls River Square store will shut its doors for good in August.

It will soon be time to say goodbye to .

Owner Liz Royer announced the decision in late May and will hold a going-out-of-business sale up until the shop is shuttered on Aug. 31.

All vintage items – mainly from the 1930s, 40s and 50s – are marked anywhere from 10 to 75 percent off, she said.

Royer took over the business – formerly Falls Antiques and Collectibles – in 2009, renamed it and changed up the inventory to attract a larger customer base.

Unfortunately, lackluster sales have persisted and Royer ran out of options.

Yet the liquidation sale, coupled with recent weekend festivals and weekly car shows, has made way for an influx of new customers.

Many showed up during the weekend-long , nostalgically perusing over collectible items and purchasing a few that caught their eye.

Some of her most popular sellers have been: purses, cameras, telephones, jewelry, record albums, old books and decorative items.

“Sales have been good lately, but it’s just not enough to keep the store going," she said. “I’d like to thank all my regular customers for coming in and supporting the store over the years. It’s my goal to open up a new business, maybe a tea room, in the next couple of years, so maybe I’ll see those familiar faces down the road.”

Good news is, Royer will continue to sell items online at Fallsantiquesohio.com, so check out the link once the old shop shuts down.

Limited store hours run from 6-9 p.m. on Mondays and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays.

Suburban Retro is located in the District at 2204 Front St.
