Q&A: 16 Kids Deli Becomes a Quick Favorite in the Falls

The sandwich shop, located inside Schmitt Family Food Mart, will celebrate five years in the community in April

Tucked inside the gas station at the intersection of Second Street and Broad Boulevard is a little sandwich shop that's been keeping customers satisfied since 2008.

(known to the locals as "16 Kids Deli") is run by some of Bob Schmitt’s 16 kids and even some of his grandchildren. It will celebrate five years in the community this coming April. Take a look below to see what Jennifer Thomas — one of Schmitt's children — has to say about the deli, which serves up sandwiches, hot dogs, salads and so much more.

Jennifer Thomas: We opened in April 2008. I was already running Schmitt Family Food Mart when my dad and I decided to add the deli inside. Now I run both the gas station and deli.

Cuyahoga Falls Patch: What are some of the most popular items you sell?

Thomas: The Rueben is one of our best sellers and we recently named it after Stan Piatt, WNIR radio host, who loves our Reuben. Also, the Italian is a big hit.

Cuyahoga Falls Patch: I'm always interested in where people got their business names. I understand 16 Kids Deli is pretty self-explanatory?

Thomas: Yes, it is. My mom and dad had 16 children, of which I am No. 4.

Cuyahoga Falls Patch: Of all the places you could be, why operate your business in Cuyahoga Falls?

Thomas: We moved into the Falls when I was 5. It is our community and it made sense to stay and support our city.

Cuyahoga Falls Patch: Anything Patch readers would be surprised to learn about you or the store? Or anything else you'd like to add?

Thomas: We have a very extensive menu with many items, including mozzarella sticks, salads, hot dogs, paninis, kid's meals and much more. We have different soups and specials daily and monthly, plus featured sandwiches. What people may not know is that we have catering for business meetings.
