Long Awaited Rebuild Underway for Acme Fresh Market

After 10 years of planning, acquiring land parcels and gathering capital, the State Road Acme Fresh Market renovation has begun and should be just about done by Thanksgiving.

To the delight of many Falls residents, the overdue renovation of the Acme Fresh Market is now underway, reports the Akron Beacon Journal.

The 60-year-old supermarket, located at 2226 State Road, will expand from 30,000 square feet to 52,000 to accommodate a new bakery, floral and prepared food departments, a pharmacy and specialty meat case, said Acme President Steve Albrecht.

Acme officials wasted no time with the construction work, which immediately followed Friday morning’s groundbreaking ceremony.

“It’s a big project for us,” said Albrecht. “Any store is a big project, but this one is particularly difficult. We’ll be keeping the existing store in operation while we build a new store around it. We’re going to set up a webcam so customers can see this unfold.”

The project, nearly a decade in the making, will cost $8.5 million and should be completed by this Thanksgiving. Some behind-the-scenes work will most likely continue through February of 2013.

"We’re very excited," said who attended Friday's groundbreaking. "This is a major factor in our State Road renovation project along with Portage Crossing. It’s certainly a plus for the Falls community.”
