Frugal Family: Local Deals to Save You Time and Cash

Gamers, movie buffs find deals at The Exchange; pet doctors who make house calls.

April Fools' Day is Friday, but Frugal Families aren't so easily fooled any day of the year. Check out some of the deals we've dug up this week. No fooling.

The Exchange, 3107 W. Market St., Fairlawn, 330-873-1468; 657 Howe Ave., Cuyahoga Falls, 330-940-3939.  Videos and video games, new and used, are available at the Exchange locations. Recent releases such as The Fighter, The Social Network and Due Date are available, including some used titles, ranging from $17 to $22 in DVD and Blu-Ray. Older titles are available as well, including great bargains for $1 to $2.50 per disc. I found copies of Terminator 2 and Caddy Shack  at the Falls location a year or so ago.

• Five Below, 3829 Medina Rd, Fairlawn, 330-665-3064. Five Below specializes in discount merchandise from jewelry to books, home decor and entertainment. Toys, sporting goods, seasonal and holiday gifts are also sold at Five Below. The Fairlawn location opened last September. Stores have Easter candy from $1 to $5.

Visiting Vets, 1937 N. Cleveland-Massillon Road, Akron, 330-665-5915. You can lead a horse to water, but good luck pushing it into the vet’s office. Visiting Vets works with cats, dogs, birds and  horses, so it’s a good thing these doctors do house (or barn) calls.  In addition to extensive veterinary services, Visiting Vets also offers grooming and training for animals and their owners. Open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Saturday and by appointment on Sunday. After hours, call 330-379-1202 for the doctor on call.

Falls Country  Market, 1023 Munroe Falls Ave., Cuyahoga Falls, 330-922-8133. The Falls Country Market, at the intersection of Bailey Road and Munroe Falls Avenue, offers a breakfast sandwich for $1.25 and coffee for 50 cents. Stop by on the way to the Water Works Park and you won’t be late for that soccer game.
