Cinemark 10 Coming Soon to Portage Crossing?

Cuyahoga Falls officials have remained mum on the details of the proposed retail project; however, Cinemark's website could offer a big clue on what's to come.

Under the "Grand Openings" section of its website, Cinemark has posted news that a 10-screen movie theatre is headed to Cuyahoga Falls.

Could this be the same theatre city officials alluded to during a Nov. 19 City Council meeting?

Cuyahoga Falls Development Director Sue Truby and Cinemark couldn't be reached Friday to offer a definitive answer.

Over the last several weeks, Mayor Don Robart and his staff have remained mum on Portage Crossing as they work with developer Bob Stark, of Stark Enterprises, to finalize the proposed $60 million retail project.

However, Robart did recently indicate an announcement may come sometime in December.

No IMAX?
After it's just announced that an eight-screen theater is closing at the plaza? Are they making boneheaded decisions to try to make the Giant Eagle two-block move look good?

What theater is closing at the plaza?
Brandy Marks December 15, 2012 at 08:04 pm
LOL! Thanks! It's actually been on there for almost a month. We discovered it after learning about the plaza closing and helping our family member look for new employment.

It would be nice if Stark would get moving instead of bluffing the Administration by continually asking for more freebies such as free electricity for 10 years at Portage Crossing. Can't anybody call his bluff and get another builder to replace this master bluffer who keeps asking for more freebies. Come on City Administrators tell the Cuyahoga Falls citizens what else he is asking for besides the free electricity.
CALL HIS BLUFF OR DUMP THEM.

I hope this theater is going to have full security and will be designed to be safe from someone with a gun or a bomb. We do not need that sort of crime here in our city. Let them go somewhere else if that is what they are looking to do. Let's design this building to know that it is as safe as any movie theater in the country. Even if people have to pay a little more for extra security to know they will be safe while they are watching their movie. My wife had a cousin that died from a terrorist bomb in a public station. Her brother had been talking to him just a few hours before he died. The problem was there were a number of legs and they were not sure which one was his. So we need to be careful about this sort of stuff. Bush closed down those terrorist schools in Pakistan. But new schools open up all the time.

Well said, Dick. Time for Stark to put up or get out, and he can take the Adminstration with him. Truby says it's not a giveaway (because the ordinance is on hold and hasn't been reviewed or voted on YET!). Referred to as a credit and/or subsidy, but not a giveaway? Two council persons gave different figures. $75,000 for 10 years, or $70,000 for 15 years. Either way, we electric users will be picking up this. The city sure didn't give me an electric subsidy when I built in the Falls!

Does Robart's son, Michael, work for Stark? I have heard that he does. Seems inappropriate to say the least.

I don't see this on Cinemark's site anymore. And although I am sad to see Plaza close; it wasn't a good theater. Sound systems were poorly maintained, would cut out or even buzz. Screen sizes were small and not clear. I drive to the Cinemark in Macedonia when seeing movies where they benefit from a nice big clear/sharp screen and clean surround sound. For a comedy or drama, I'm happy with Regal. At least their stuff isn't broken. I have another friend that will only take his family to Cinemark.

What's going on in the Paridise club in cuyahoga Falls is unbelievable, and for sure needs reported.Read More I was approached in October /november by the manager at that time. He came on to me in a very sick manner, said some very perverted commits and when I spoke up telling him I'm new to sobriety and not interested , he just chuckled with this disturbing smile. Then went on to offer me a job there at the Club, said I could through him get hired, then next came a sick smile. I left and didn't go back there for awhile . Would sometimes attend the AA meetings in the basement of Paridise Club , but stayed away from upstairs. But always very uncomfortable that I'd run into him. I had heard that He was no longer president because he admitted to being a sexual predator which involved several child of the AA members and others ,ect. So I stopped in for coffee and fellowship a month or so ago, and didn't see him until after I sat down. He was playing pool, but saw me. My stomach dropped , upon trying to leave , he approached me asking how sobriety was going. Then offered me a job to clean his apartment. Very ere! If I see him again there I will call the police. My friends daughter worked there I found out later. It's just plane sick that he is allowed there.

I would like to know where the person who wrote this blog got their information. AA is not aRead More religious cult or a cult of any sort. Members of AA have been helping other alcoholics since 1935. Medical science has proved that alcoholism is a disease with NO cure. AA is there to offer a helping hand.

We were very fortunate to have the Humane Society take them. They should be available for adoptionRead More soon. I am just deeply saddened that people can do something like this with no concern for the dogs' welfare and to thrust that responsibility onto others who can't stand by and do nothing.

I agree, this is inconsiderate and unkind. I would wish that people would not treat their animalsRead More so, but that remains a wish. However, I am thankful that something worse did not happen. At least at the park, someone was there who was kindhearted enough to take action. I shudder to think of the "other" possibilities.

Congrats John. I know what you are feeling. I know when my daughter was born way back in 1975 @Read More Cuyahoga Falls General. I wanted to go out to the intersection of Broad and State Rd and shout at the top of my lungs, "I have a baby daughter" That was the greatest enjoyment and biggest trill ever!!
