When it comes to the perfect pizza pie, you have a handful of choices nearby, but Mr G’s is the only one I know to bring the flavor and style of New York close to home.
While you probably have a favorite, go-to pizza joint (mine is usually Luigi’s in Akron), but I was open minded and my tummy was pleased after sitting down for an evening meal at
I started with an appetizer-- Mr G's House Fries, a yummy basket of golden cooked fries covered in melted cheese and topped with garlic and oil. The fries are thick enough to soak up the extra oil for dipping. This is a fun vacation from the usual bread and butter basket.
When you take a look at the menu, you’ll notice more than one style pizza. If you prefer a thick and fluffy crust, go with the traditional. If you want to have a taste of the Big Apple, then I’d order the New York Style Pizza and load it up with your favorite toppings.
What I loved most about the New York Style Pizza; the cheese almost met the crust. You could enjoy every inch of the slice, and if you don’t usually eat the crust, well, you might at Mr G’s. The only difference between this and the real thing is that the crust is a tad thicker than in New York, which I think is a good thing.
New York Style Pizzas start at $11.99 for a medium, $13.99 for a large and $19.99 for an extra large pie. The Traditional Style Pizzas start at $10.99 for a medium, $12.49 for a large and $17.50 for an extra large. Mr G’s also offers an array of gourmet pizzas including white pizza, the Sicilian and Steak Lovers.
If you’re leaning toward lunch, Mr. G’s serves up specials:
- Two slices of pizza and a drink; $4.99.
- One slice of cheese pizza and a side salad; $4.99.
- Lunch spaghetti with soup or salad; $5.99.
- Soup and salad combo; $4.99.
- Half sub and fries; $5.99.
Dinner items include pasta dishes (a spaghetti dinner for $8.99), Eggplant Parmesan $11.99 and Mrs. G’s Famous Gnocchi $12.50. Each dinner is served with a side salad or cup of soup and fresh bread.
This pizzeria is also known for its 12 inch Super Subs! Ranging from $6.99 to $8.99, customers can order from a long list of options including pepperoni, veggie, Cappicola, Italian, meatball, buffalo chicken finger, steak in the grass, etc.
Mr G’s offers catering for small and large sized parties or meetings. From rehearsal dinners and birthday parties to corporate meetings and seminars, those interested may request to reserve a room at the restaurant too.
The atomosphere inside is inviting and cozy. Each booth has a small lamp for lighting, so you feel as if it's just you and your date. I'd say Mr G's is a great idea if you'd like to try a more casual date idea and a fun place to bring the family!
