High Bridge Glens history talk and book signing

High Bridge Glens presentation and book signing May 15 at Cuyahoga Falls Library

There will be a High Bridge Glens history presentation and book signing Tuesday, May 15 at 7 p.m. at the Cuyahoga Falls Library, 2015 Third St., in the downstairs meeting room. The event is free and open to the public.

At the event, local author Mary McClure will give a slide presentation on the High Bridge Glens & Caves, a Victorian era amusement park that made Cuyahoga Falls a travel sensation in the late 1800s. The park, which was located along the banks of the Cuyahoga River at Front and Prospect streets (next to what is today the Sheraton Suites), attracted up to 8,000 visitors a day and is said to have had one of the first roller coasters in the U.S.

A portion of the Glens now constitutes the Glens Trail in the Gorge Metro Park.

In addition to the basic history of High Bridge Glens, McClure will, for the first time, present several newly acquired antique images from the Glens – including the only known 1800s artistic representation of a small portion of the Glens coaster in operation.

Following the presentation, copies of the newly published 128-page pictorial history book, High Bridge Glens of Cuyahoga Falls, will be available for purchase and signing by the author. Cash or check accepted.
