First Cut Into Sheraton Dam Successful

The RiverWorks demolition team started demolition Tuesday morning.

Spectators gathered Tuesday morning for the first cut of the 99-year-old Sheraton Mill Dam.

City officials kept their fingers crossed in light of multiple demolition delays due to record-high Cuyahoga River levels caused by intemperate weather.

If the weather cooperates, the Sheraton dam could be down by as early as the end of the week, said Cuyahoga Falls Engineer Tony Demasi.

City service director Valerie Wax Carr said over 900 viewers tuned into the live "dam cam" feed for the event Tuesday morning.
