Summit DD to Host Free Family Movie Night

(Tallmadge, Ohio) – Summit County Developmental Disabilities Board (Summit DD) invites local families to its second Family Movie Night on Thursday, July 17. The Lego Movie will be shown at the Administration Building, located at 89 E. Howe Road in Tallmadge at 6:00 p.m.  Gates open at 5:00 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

“The hope for these events is to build parent-to-parent connections where families can network and get to know friends from their community. That’s how we make more inclusive places for everyone,” explained Summit DD’s Early Intervention Manager, Tina Overturf.

This second event builds off of the success from the initial Family Movie Night in May, which provided children and families of all abilities the opportunity to meet and mingle. “When I looked across the playground at all of the kids playing, I didn’t see any differences. I didn’t see kids with disabilities and kids without disabilities. I just saw families having a great time together – and that was the point of it all. That’s what successful inclusion is,” Overturf shared.

In addition to the movie and playground fun, kids will also have the opportunity to play the new Lego Movie Xbox game, compliments of the Beechwood Microsoft store. “We want to thank our partners at Microsoft, who will be joining us,” Overturf added. “Like us, they see themselves as part of the community and look for ways to support the community around them.”

Families are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets for the movie. Adaptable seating is available for use. Please contact Summit DD’s Children’s Services department with special requests prior to Thursday, July 17. Food and non-alcoholic beverages are permitted. Popcorn will be provided.
