Ohio Women and Civil War Home Front topic of Nov. 14 Cuyahoga Falls Historical Society meeting
The next meeting of the Cuyahoga Falls Historical Society will be held on Weds., Nov. 14 at the Cuyahoga Falls Library, 2015 Third St., at 7 p.m.
Speaker for the event will be Kelly D. Selby, Ph.D., assistant professor of history at Walsh University, who will give a presentation on “Ohio Women and the Civil War Home Front.” The political and military role that Ohio played in the Union’s victory is widely known. However, less understood is the vital contribution that Ohio women made to the war effort.
Selby’s presentation will spotlight Ohio women’s activities on the home front, focusing largely on Soldiers Aid Societies and the Sanitary Fairs in Cleveland and Cincinnati.
The meeting, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the library’s downstairs meeting room.
