The amended contract was passed 9-2 by Cuyahoga Falls City Council members Monday night.
Cuyahoga Falls City Council passed an amended contract 9-2 to sell the former State Road Shopping Center to developer Stark Enterprises for $3.7 million. However, under the deal, Stark won't be required to pay the seven-figure tab and will, in essence, spend nothing to acquire the 25-acre parcel. At-large councilwomen Carrie Snyder and Carol Klinger cast the dissenting votes. The land deal will likely be closed by June 30. "I want to reject this latest offer brought before us but the administration has told us that without these latest incentives the developer will walk away," said Council President Don Walters (Ward 6) at Monday night's meeting reports the Falls News-Press . It costs $410 less to get an MRI in Summit County than in Cuyahoga County. That's according to data from New Choice Health, a private company that encourages people to become smarter healthcare consumers. The two counties border each other, Cuyahoga County includes the city of Cleveland and the headquarters for MetroHealth Medical Center, University Hospitals and the Cleveland Clinic. These big regional differences have been in the news lately: As the Washington Post wrote last week, "One hospital charges $8,000 - another $38,000." Using the same data as the Post, The New York Times listed out the prices of a series of procedures in hospitals across the country. City Council will decide May 13 whether it agrees to changes to the terms of sale for the planned Portage Crossings development. The Falls News Press reports there are three major changes: Stark Enterprises wants to build a major retail development at the State Road location on 25.29 acres. Cuyahoga Falls wishes to sell the land that it purchased when it was blighted to Stark Enterprises for $3,793,500. The Falls News Press reported during the May 6 meeting when the developer presented its site plan, Councilwoman Carol Klinger (R-At Large), said the developer's "after" pictures are "prettier" than the "before" pictures, "but it's coming at a $20 million cost."
