While we do not yet have the magic pill that will reverse Alzheimer’s disease in humans, we do know measures we can take to lower our risk of developing the disease. 

“If we were able to delay the onset of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease by even five years, the reduction in costs and suffering would be enormous,” said Kenneth S. Kosik, MD, Co-Director, Neuroscience Research Institute at the University of California Santa Barbara. 

The public is invited to hear Dr. Kosik present specific strategies for maintaining brain health at all ages. Dr. Kosik will be the keynote speaker of the Alzheimer’s Association Cleveland Area Chapter’s annual Joseph M. Foley Lecture Nov. 7, 2012 at the Holiday Inn Rockside, 6001 Rockside Road, Independence, Ohio. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. and the presentation will begin at 5:30 p.m.

The event is free and offers 1.5 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) to social workers and nurses. The presentation will be particularly helpful to those in healthcare professions who advise patients on maintaining brain health. Following the keynote, a panel of Alzheimer’s disease experts will also expand upon the issues and take questions. Moderating the panel will be Gary Landreth, Ph.D., Professor of Neuroscience, Case Western Reserve University. Lecture panelists include James Campbell, MD, Director, Geriatric Health, MetroHealth Senior Health & Wellness Center; Kathryn Kilpatrick, MA, CCC/SLP, Geriatric Communication Consultant, Memory FitnessCoach; and Stephen Rao, Ph.D., Director, Schey Center for Cognitive Neuroimaging, Cleveland Clinic.
