Wholly Frijoles Mexican Street Foods, a Cuyahoga Falls-based food truck company, is almost ready to roll, and anticipation (along with appetite) is growing among its Facebook fanbase, according to owners Juan and Tracy Gonzalez.
"We started our Facebook page on Oct. 17, 2012 shortly after my husband started construction on the truck," said Tracy. "It's really amazing to us how important and influential social media is in starting a mobile food truck business. I'm not sure that the industry would ever have risen to this level without it. And I think we are a great example of that."
Tracy said traffic on the page grew slowly at first.
"At first, it really was just our real life family and friends. But, slowly the number of likes creeped up," she said.
As of Jan. 28, the page had 193 "likes."
"On Jan. 19, my husband posted a challenge-stating that we wanted 100 likes by the end of January," she said. "Sunday morning his phone started going off like crazy because of all of the likes we were receiving. And that's when I saw the surprise article that Cuyahoga Falls Patch had posted. By the end of the day we were up to 153 likes — over 100 likes in one day. And all within our community."
What to Expect on the Page
Love food pictures? Expect to see a lot of mouth-watering photos of menu items (see attached photos) posted regularly on the page as well as locations to find the food truck and upcoming events.
Tracy said so far, they have plans to take the food truck to Cleveland, Akron and possibly at the Cuyahoga Falls Cruise-in on Monday nights in the summer.
And the question on everyone's minds ... will Wholly Frijoles be at Rockin' on the River?
"It's a dream event for us. It draws such a huge crowd from all over northeast Ohio. And I am very happy to say that we were sent the contract for Rockin' on the River just today [Jan. 25]. We are so thankful for the opportunity and will be signing on as soon as possible — so be on the lookout for our big orange and white truck every Friday night!" said Tracy.
(The company will also be available for private events. Email them for more details.)
"We also want to share all the wonderful, crazy, funny, and surprising things that happen to us on this journey. Really anything that makes us say, 'Wholly Frijoles!!' is what we will share on our Facebook page," said Tracy. "We haven't served a single customer yet and already there are people out there truly excited to see us and eat our food. Without social media I think maybe my family and a few of our close friends would be aware of what we were doing. Not the 180+ people that are now in our Facebook family."
When Can We Eat the Food?
One update many Facebook followers are eager to see is the grand opening date.
"That day is still a little bit of a mystery ... we are in the process of lining up events and we will let everyone know through Facebook an Twitter as soon as all the plans are finalized. This should happen in the next couple of weeks. We want to be serving food to our excited followers by mid March," explained Tracy — so stay tuned to Cuyahoga Falls Patch and the Wholly Frijoles social media outlets for more.
Stay Tuned for Specials
"We will definitely be offering specials through our Facebook page — from free drinks and desserts to BOGO tacos. It will just depend on the event that we are at that day," said Tracy.
