Junior Girl Scouts of Troop 40, from DeWitt Elementary, made a quilt to auction off to aid their fellow girl scouts in Japan who are affected by the tsunami.

Girl Scouts got to help out their sisters in Japan and celebrate their artwork at a real gallery opening at Studio 2091 on Monday.
Gallery owner Amy Mothersbaugh Roos opened her store to the scouts and sold their artwork on a night she would normally be closed.
Scout leader Patty Sullivan said the Scouts raised $460.50 from the event. All proceeds went to help scout organizations in Japan recover from the earthquake and tsunami.

I am so proud of these young ladies! They worked hard for weeks preparing the art, invitations and food for this event. I did not hear one girl suggest keeping the money they earned to use for themselves; the entire time they were focused on helping others. Troop 40, this should show you that even kids can make a really big difference in the world!
As for the negative comment above, this event was planned before the tragedies in Alabama happened. The Girl Scouts teaches girls love and acceptance to everyone, and they promise to "help people at all times." Never would we teach our girls to not help someone in need. Troop 40 saw members of their sister organization, the Japan Girl Guides, in trouble and they stepped up to help! In fact, in the past 5 years, these girls have done so many service projects I can't keep track. If you are worried they are not helping their Cuyahoga Falls/Akron community, don't worry because they have! Girls, don't pay attention to any negative comments because you really have done a good thing!

@ Patty...YEAH! Thank you for your positive attitude. You are the leader these young girls deserve. You back up your actions with compassion. I wish everyone would would just keep it as real and simple as you have. The girls saw a need and wanted to help. 9 & 10 year old girls. They are our heros and future problem solvers. How can you possibly disparage the generosity of these young girls? They saw the devastation left by the tsunami and wanted to help. The troop has done many service projects for their community including working on behalf of the local food bank. Hopefully, these girls are learning not to hate. These children are our future mothers,teachers,employers and community leaders I am glad that they are learning lessons in compassion for it seems that they will need it.

Kudos to Troop 40, Leader Patty Sullivan, Amy Mothersbaugh-Roos and all those who came to the event. What a wonderful fundraiser and a great time. These girls and their parents are an inspiration to all. I will be reminded of the girls generosity and positive attitude every time I look at the new painting in my living room. Great job, girls!
