Not going to happen!

I will definitely be moving out of Cuyahoga Falls before the next election. It was a good city when I originally moved here, but I have seen this city sink lower and lower into an abyss of mindless spending (aka Eminent Domain, self-proclaiming banners) and egocentric politicians, who have blended the two party system into one little tyranny.

You are missing the bigger picture. There was anger that Acme changed their minds, but at the same time, no one knows what the final version of the Field of Dreams (aka Portage Crossing) is even going to look like. And this is not going to sound nice, but it's going to be honest. Look around the Eton Collection, Legacy Village, and Crocker Park and you'll notice a major difference of those areas and where the Field of Dreams is going. The neighborhoods surrounding those areas are more affluent than the one that will be surrounding Portage Crossing. When this economy crashes, which the worst is still coming, the neighborhoods around Portage Crossing will not be able to economically sustain it. Looking at nicer areas (new strip malls and office complexes) that have had vacancy signs on their windows for a few years gives you an indication that money is being pulled in and self-preservation is how those dollars are being spent/saved. For example, having been at B-Spot in Eton (not too long ago), I do not know how many people in that surrounding area of Portage Crossing will pony up $10 for a burger and $5 for fries. I'm not even including the beverage. This is why I keep calling this project the Field of Dreams. Although, I think the unfinished tower on State Road will prove to be a good reminder of how things don't get finished in the Falls.

Comparing the neighborhoods of the lifestyle centers you mentioned to Cuyahoga Falls isn't even apples and oranges. Cuyahoga Falls was NEVER an upscale suburb. NEVER.
Nor was Portage Crossing ever billed to be along the lines of those lifestyle centers. And for you to think nobody will frequent B-Spot is nothing short of hilarious -- which only further proves you don't get it. Portage Crossings is meant to be a DESTINATION -- meaning drawing people from neighboring suburbs. Like Stow. And Hudson. And Fairlawn, etc.

OK, let's take where the economy is going off the table. That the city has committed so much money, which is our money, to a project that keeps evolving as the days pass is fiscally insane. We not only lost our money in this deal, due to what the developer bought the land for, but the target keeps moving out. In the meanwhile, we keep being told the project is going to be this now, not that, but wait, now it's this, yet now we have another idea...and over and over and over. What it tells me is that this administration is committed to a dream, but not a real plan. So, what will we see in this coming year? Perhaps more nice pictures of what the Field of Dreams will be, but where is the reality? Our tax money was used as an eminent domain move, yet we still don't have any direction or clue of what the final mall will end up being. And we don't even have a time line of when that will happen.

The only sustainable retailer going in is Giant Eagle. Destination shopping is NOT a B-spot and Giant Eagle. Polaris is destination shopping. Lodi is destination shopping. A couple of over priced burger joints and already over-saturated franchise operations is NOT destination shopping.

Mogadore has less than 4,000 residents... Cuyahoga Falls has over 50,000... hardly comparable lol

Nice neocon response. Like our faux tea party mayor, who tore out businesses to build a park no one uses, you cannot get anymore greenie than that. This city is swimming in cash. If in doubt, ask to see the hidden set of books known as the annual comprehensive financial report of the city. I informed some police officers about this when the mayor was looking to cut their budget.

This mayor is a RINO. He is no Scott Walker, nor is he even close to someone like Walker. Robart resembles the watered down neocons than a true conservative.

As for Menard's, it's a great Wisconsin based company which is fun to shop at. But as you are stating, I would not call Menard's a destination store. Even though they are a combination of Target meets Home Depot, due to the amount of things they stock, the majority of the items they house can be found locally already.

Now, if we would've heard that Ikea decided to set up a store in the Falls, then they could say they have created a destination place for people to shop at. Even something on the order of a Trader Joe's would've assured constant traffic. Those two stores have loyal, cult followings. People shop at those two stores, regardless of where they are located. Anything less of those two suggestions leaves much to be desired.

So really, PC was not very well planned out and (as I have said before) is currently nothing more than a Field of Dreams. If you want to see how productive this city is with eminent domain purchases, take a walk down to the old Falls Theater on Front Street. There's a benchmark to weigh this current debacle up against.

And here I always called that the "Monopoly house" part of the Falls.

Take the area formerly known as Northampton out of this equation and the Falls (at best) is slightly a middle class area. And the reason why the roads are so awful is because they cannot be fixed and have a plaque affixed with the mayor's name on it, as one can do with all the dog and pony projects. Who cares about our infrastructure as long as we know about the Doodlebug, right? Ask anyone who has had to deal with flooding during our heavy downpours if they would rather have dry basements or a new mall? Pun intended, the roads are only the surface of the problems in the Falls. And as long as there isn't a way to get the mayor to make it into a photo op, it will not be addressed.
