I will definitely be moving out of Cuyahoga Falls before the next election. It was a good city when I originally moved here, but I have seen this city sink lower and lower into an abyss of mindless spending (aka Eminent Domain, self-proclaiming banners) and egocentric politicians, who have blended the two party system into one little tyranny.

agree with Earl. I like Robart as a person from what I've seen and I think he does certain things VERY well within the city and example is that most city employees I've encountered and they treat residents well. I still am bothered by 2 things, first - The portgage crossings DEBACLE. This was announced to break ground in 2010 and never happened. So far NOTHING has happened. I would like the city to buy it back for the 3 mil they sold to stark and wait to find one really big retailer to take it over.

2nd - The city has no real building code. The landlords that own property on State road ( especially shopping plazas ) do not take care of them and the signs look aweful, which is funny considering 7 city employees initially put a stop on the glass blocks Acme was using because it was " not in contract" they went so far as to meet with the builder over it, I find that outrageous. So the same group of people that were concerned and bullying Acme is blind to the rest of the state road plaza's that look like a ghetto? What about the Golden Goose? They don't even have a sign!! How bad that that look!@!@?

You are missing the bigger picture. There was anger that Acme changed their minds, but at the same time, no one knows what the final version of the Field of Dreams (aka Portage Crossing) is even going to look like. And this is not going to sound nice, but it's going to be honest. Look around the Eton Collection, Legacy Village, and Crocker Park and you'll notice a major difference of those areas and where the Field of Dreams is going. The neighborhoods surrounding those areas are more affluent than the one that will be surrounding Portage Crossing. When this economy crashes, which the worst is still coming, the neighborhoods around Portage Crossing will not be able to economically sustain it. Looking at nicer areas (new strip malls and office complexes) that have had vacancy signs on their windows for a few years gives you an indication that money is being pulled in and self-preservation is how those dollars are being spent/saved. For example, having been at B-Spot in Eton (not too long ago), I do not know how many people in that surrounding area of Portage Crossing will pony up $10 for a burger and $5 for fries. I'm not even including the beverage. This is why I keep calling this project the Field of Dreams. Although, I think the unfinished tower on State Road will prove to be a good reminder of how things don't get finished in the Falls.

Oh, I do nothing but LMAO at people like you who tell others they're missing the bigger picture. Look in your closest mirror.

Comparing the neighborhoods of the lifestyle centers you mentioned to Cuyahoga Falls isn't even apples and oranges. Cuyahoga Falls was NEVER an upscale suburb. NEVER.
Nor was Portage Crossing ever billed to be along the lines of those lifestyle centers. And for you to think nobody will frequent B-Spot is nothing short of hilarious -- which only further proves you don't get it. Portage Crossings is meant to be a DESTINATION -- meaning drawing people from neighboring suburbs. Like Stow. And Hudson. And Fairlawn, etc.

I also am sick and tired of waiting on Postage Crossing. Just a big eye sore like all of State Road. Only nice thing will be Acme WHENEVER it gets done. State Road looks very trashy and hate driving down it.

The mayor's mouthpiece, Joe Homeowner, said that it will be a destination though.

I am not missing the bigger picture, I am aware the city was " furious" about Acme and It's the silliest thing I have ever heard of in a while, they suck at doing their jobs!

However - To say the worst is yet to come and that the city can’t sustain another strip mall that is upscale but at the same time catering to the falls demographic is naive and ignorant. The point of P- Crossing is to get the people in the falls ( over 50,000 ) to shop here. While the falls residents and homeowners are not rich, they are not exactly poor and will spend money here in the city if the retail spaces and restaurants are nice. Most Cuyahoga falls people are going into Hudson and Stow to shop and eat!! Also, it is set to be a destination location, to attract others from different cities.

I am not happy about the progress of Portage Crossings and not please with many things about the way it has been handled by the developer but to come out and claim it will fail based on the past when a slum landlord had junky stores rented out and that the economy is getting worse is asinine.

OK, let's take where the economy is going off the table. That the city has committed so much money, which is our money, to a project that keeps evolving as the days pass is fiscally insane. We not only lost our money in this deal, due to what the developer bought the land for, but the target keeps moving out. In the meanwhile, we keep being told the project is going to be this now, not that, but wait, now it's this, yet now we have another idea...and over and over and over. What it tells me is that this administration is committed to a dream, but not a real plan. So, what will we see in this coming year? Perhaps more nice pictures of what the Field of Dreams will be, but where is the reality? Our tax money was used as an eminent domain move, yet we still don't have any direction or clue of what the final mall will end up being. And we don't even have a time line of when that will happen.

The only sustainable retailer going in is Giant Eagle. Destination shopping is NOT a B-spot and Giant Eagle. Polaris is destination shopping. Lodi is destination shopping. A couple of over priced burger joints and already over-saturated franchise operations is NOT destination shopping.

Nice neocon response. Like our faux tea party mayor, who tore out businesses to build a park no one uses, you cannot get anymore greenie than that. This city is swimming in cash. If in doubt, ask to see the hidden set of books known as the annual comprehensive financial report of the city. I informed some police officers about this when the mayor was looking to cut their budget.

This mayor is a RINO. He is no Scott Walker, nor is he even close to someone like Walker. Robart resembles the watered down neocons than a true conservative.

I hope Portage Crossing gets built...otherwise the folks in CF may be looking at low income housing as a "plan B" option. I think the B Spot will pull people from Stow, a few from Hudson, and some people from surrounding areas but all the other businesses will not as you can find a Giant Eagle, Pet Supplies Plus, or Chipotle, just about anywhere. Most people from Hudson do their shopping in Beachwood or Legacy Village so this development will have to be frequented by people from CF in order for it to survive. The big question is whether there is enough money in the pockets of locals to support these businesses over the long term. Everyone can argue back and forth as to whether this development will make it or not, but the reality is that we will have to see what happens. I'm hoping for a field of dreams scenario for PC, but if our economy stays "in the dumps" for the next 4-5 years like they predict, then I don't think the outlook for PC is very good.

Matt, you actually get it.

As for Menard's, it's a great Wisconsin based company which is fun to shop at. But as you are stating, I would not call Menard's a destination store. Even though they are a combination of Target meets Home Depot, due to the amount of things they stock, the majority of the items they house can be found locally already.

Now, if we would've heard that Ikea decided to set up a store in the Falls, then they could say they have created a destination place for people to shop at. Even something on the order of a Trader Joe's would've assured constant traffic. Those two stores have loyal, cult followings. People shop at those two stores, regardless of where they are located. Anything less of those two suggestions leaves much to be desired.

So really, PC was not very well planned out and (as I have said before) is currently nothing more than a Field of Dreams. If you want to see how productive this city is with eminent domain purchases, take a walk down to the old Falls Theater on Front Street. There's a benchmark to weigh this current debacle up against.

And now the true State of the City:
Meth labs in full bloom;
Low high school grad rate & college attendance rate;
Payday lenders smelling death & locating there;
Businesses that can't stay open because everyone with money moves out of town;
A mayor that couldn't plan a Lego city;
Housing that nobody with cash wants to buy.

If you're from North Hill or Goodyear Heights or Firestone Park you might aspire to move to CF. You might think the $100,000 house is like moving on up to that deluxe apartment in the sky. Or maybe you cant get financing. Cuyahoga Falls has what you need - plenty of rental property or "lease to own" deals.

But that crappy housing stock is the reason Cuyahoga Falls is in a death spiral. City hall is doing nothing about it except building a pet supply store on State Rd. "But but, people will drive from Montrose to shop there right?" Grow up.

Ward 8, you say? Yes, you can get a better house and a little land in Ward 8. But the main roads look so horrible & are so badly planned that you'll immediately regret your purchase. You will tell your friends & family that you live in Peninsula.

How nice that Don Robart is content to be king of mount turd. He's driven Cuyahoga Falls into the ground & thinks it's just fine.

What is Cuyahoga Falls' future? When your children are grown, they will bring their children back to their hometown & drive by the house they grew up in. It will look like North Hill. No Panera is going to change that future.

And here I always called that the "Monopoly house" part of the Falls.

Take the area formerly known as Northampton out of this equation and the Falls (at best) is slightly a middle class area. And the reason why the roads are so awful is because they cannot be fixed and have a plaque affixed with the mayor's name on it, as one can do with all the dog and pony projects. Who cares about our infrastructure as long as we know about the Doodlebug, right? Ask anyone who has had to deal with flooding during our heavy downpours if they would rather have dry basements or a new mall? Pun intended, the roads are only the surface of the problems in the Falls. And as long as there isn't a way to get the mayor to make it into a photo op, it will not be addressed.

If we want to attract smart ambitious people to our community then our community conversations need to be honest, open, and responsible.

If we want our political leaders to be responsible then we need to request things like the 2013 City Budget and the 5 year forecast.

We need to see the data and then ask useful questions to get helpful results.
That is what high value companies do.
