While Lincoln leading the way with 12 nominations—including Best Picture, Best Director for Steven Spielberg, Best Actor for Daniel Day-Lewis, Best Supporting Actress for Sally Field and Best Supporting Actor for Tommy Lee Jones—wasn't a huge surprise, there are always some surprises when the nominees are named.
One of the surprises this year is that directors of three big films—Kathryn Bigelow of Zero Dark Thirty, Ben Affleck of Argo and Quentin Tarantino of Django Unchained—did not receive nominations for Best Director.
