This Just In: Michael Symon's B Spot, Among Others, Coming to Portage Crossing

The much-anticipated 400,000-square-foot, $60 million project will break ground in June, and more announcements are coming regarding other retailers and restaurants which are set to join the new marketplace.

It appears the best way to a shopper’s heart is through their stomach.

On Thursday, Cuyahoga Falls Mayor Don Robart announced the first six restaurants and retailers to be incorporated within the much-anticipated Portage Crossing development.

They include: Michael Symon’s B Spot, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Panera Bread, Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt, a 92,000 square foot Giant Eagle and Pet Supplies Plus.

Symon’s popular joint, with locations in Strongsville, Westlake and Woodmere, will feature gourmet burgers and brats and a one-of-a-kind lineup of draft beers.

“These six retailers represent approximately 26% of the total retail project, said Robart in a prepared statement released on Thursday.

We are very close to finalizing an agreement with yet another major retailer, which will be more than double the size of the Giant Eagle store.”

The 400,000 sq. ft., $60 million retail space , which will be located on a 28-acre parcel off State Road and Portage Trail, is set to break ground this June, said Robert Stark, President and Chief Executive Officer of Stark Enterprises.

“All of these announced establishments share our vision of what the marketplace will become – bustling streets filled with the most popular national and regional retailers and dining establishments,” he stated.  “This is only the beginning of many exciting announcements yet to come.”

What other retail stores and restaurants would you like to see at the new Portage Crossing development?

I would love to see a Tim Horton's open up around here. Whole Food's or Trader Joe's would also be great. M&M Meat shops are now in the U.S. and it would be great to have one here. I could go on and on! lol

Why Robart would permit another huge vacant eyesore to replace the one he tore down is absolutely beyond me.

the man is suffering from dementia and needs to be replaced.

Uhh...Robart, nor does any mayor, have any control over a business deciding to move up the street to a larger location. Especially a corporate business.

What's wrong with the Giant Eagle not even a quarter mile from there? Replacing one empty space by creating another. Smart

With all the old folks flyin around that area on their Rascals, I would assume a farmers market or QVC outlet store would be an obvious choice.

I'm questioning why Giant Eagle is moving across the street. Not too happy about creating another, huge, empty space. Will Get-go also be moving?

About the other big-box store, the article says it will be bigger than Giant Eagle. What don't we already have in the Chapel Hill/Stow-Kent/Montrose areas? Maybe a Costco or Ikea? I'd love to see a Fry's, but I don't think they operate this far east.

Awful! Only decent places are B Spot and Menchies..other than that I can just go 3 min down the road for the rest of them. I hope they have something else up their sleeves otherwise this project will be an epic fail. Giant Eagle is the worst idea..we need something new to bring business into the city not drive people away.

Maybe Marc's will move across the street. Why actually try to get new businesses in town? Shuffle them around. move Kreigers to the current Marc's building and move Goodwill to the current Giant Eagle site.

Carrabba's, Coldstone Creamery, Cracker Barrel, Au Bon Pain,Cheesecake Factory,Perkins, IHOP,B-Spot, Whole Foods, are all good ideas. So many are a bit of a drive from the area, Tallmadge, Cuy. Falls, & this side of town, not to mention Canton & Cleveland. If u put some things in there that I mentioned as well as other places that are a bit of a hike for people on this side of town, it might draw more people to it, sometimes driving to N.Canton, Ravenna,Macedonia, Montrose, Cleveland, etc can deter our decisions of where to go, or whether u can go if the weather is questionable. I ate @ the B-Spot @ Woodmere on wednesday when some gfs & I went up to Cleveland to see an art exhibit, & we all agreed its worth the trip from Akron to go back, but now that they are putting one in Cuy Falls, we could go A LOT more often!

Definitely a Trader Joes or Whole Foods! We need more real food rather than more processed, price-fixed garbage from yet another Giant Eagle that you can find around every corner. Costco and Ikea are fabulous ideas guys! It sounds like we need some variety so we don't have to travel so far. Vegan Sweet Tooth for sure Tiff! ;)

Do most of you know ANYTHING about business whatsoever?
Clearly the answer is "no".

It really is sad to see all those hoping for a Legacy Village/Crocker Park type facility. This will be another cookie cutter, suburban, run of the mill shopping center. Any hopes of it falling the other way were dashed when Pet Supplies Plus and Giant Eagle are listed as "Coming Attractions" . This really will wind up being no more than Stow Shopping Center-East when all is said and done. I was hoping for the best along with everyone else, but was fully prepared for this result.

I'm really happy to see that they are bringing life back to that abandoned lot and excited that it will generate more traffic. However, it sounds like this is beginning to look like another Chapel Hill area. All that's missing is an Applebee's and Olive Garden. We need more places like the Blue Door Cafe. Local feel and quality food.
