The Cuyahoga Falls Woman's Club was established in 1947 "for the purpose of cultural and social advancement of the women of Cuyahoga Falls and vicinities," according to the mission statement.

"We have a long-standing and wonderful tradition," club President Judy Saccogna said. Saccogna has been a member for almost nine years, and began her second term as president in May.

The club has 106 members, and in February of 2010 moved to its new location on 830 Munroe Falls Ave. "We love it here," Saccogna said. "We have a wonderful time."

 General meetings are the second Tuesday of the month September through June. Year-round the club meets weekly for bridge and euchre games, once a month for arts and crafts and there is a monthly book group. The garden section was added in the spring of 2010 with the discovery of a wooded lot on the side of the building. "It was a jungle," Saccogna said. "So we formed a garden group and tackled it. Everything was donated, fertilizer, weed killer, all the plants, the roses in the front."

The club also goes on special trips about once a month. On June 2 club members traveled to Quailquest Farm in Wooster. "We spent the day in the gardens there and we had a beautiful lunch," Saccogna said.

Along with these activities the club holds charitable events, luncheons and other special events, such as the Fused Glass Workshop on June 25 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The workshop costs $40 and is open to guests as well as members.

"We did it last year," Saccogna said. "There will be a glass artist coming in from Cleveland. We had the most beautiful jewelry last year. Everybody made something."

"We try to keep people interested," she added.

The club is looking for new members and would like to attract younger women as well. "We want to keep the club going for future generations," Saccogna said. "When we purchased the new building we did that with the intent of continuing the tradition."
