Cuyahoga Falls Students Ready for Battle on Bullying

With the help of a $50,000 Safe and Drug Free School grant, Cuyahoga Falls students will combat bullying on a district-wide basis through seminars and interactive programs next week.

The start of the new school year brings a new front in the battle on bullying in the with the help of the $50,000 Safe and Drug Free Schools Grant the district received from the Ohio Department of Education last spring.

This grant money will be used to further create a safe, disciplined school environment that supports academic achievement for every student in the community.

With a portion of the funds from this grant all students in the district will participate in Rachel’s Challenge, a series of empowering assembly programs that will equip students to combat bullying and create a culture of kindness and compassion in the schools.

The assemblies are based on the life of Rachel Scott, the first person killed in the school shooting at Columbine High School in 1999.

The assemblies and trainings will take place in every building the week of September 17.

High school and middle school students will hear the inspiring story of Rachel Scott conveyed through stories from Rachel’s life and writings.

At the elementary buildings, students will participate in an interactive assembly that will introduce them to the legacy of Rachel Scott and her challenge to reach out to others.

Students will then be asked to take on age appropriate challenges to change the culture of their individual schools.

Parents and community members are invited and encouraged to attend the Rachel’s Challenge Community Event that will be held at 7:00 pm on Friday, September 21 in the Auditorium.

This event is free of charge and open to parents and community members that are interested in supporting the district in its ongoing efforts to promote and sustain a positive, engaging school climate for the children in the community.
