UPDATE: Cuyahoga Falls High School on 'Place and Secure Status'
The local high school has been put on a "place and secure status," according to a recorded AlertNow phone message.

At 11:30 a.m., Cuyahoga Falls High School was put on a "place and secure status," according to an AlertNow message from Principal Anne Alfano.
The message stated that school officials have been in contact with Cuyahoga Falls Police, and they believe there is no immediate threat.
Until a final determination is reached, students will be kept inside their classrooms.
Just after 1 p.m. Monday, the Cuyahoga Falls City Schools District sent out a second AlertNow message informing parents that "place and secure status" is not a lockdown.
Place and secure status is the equivalent to taking away students' hall passes, said Superintendent Dr. Todd Nichols.
At 2 p.m. Patch spoke with Alfano who said rumors began to circulate amongst students on Monday that there could be a possible threat at the high school.
Alfano said once the rumors gained momentum, they activated the place and secure status to bring about a sense of order, relief and awareness.
Alfano said no student was in danger on Monday.
The status will remain through the end of the school day, and will "hopefully" expire by tomorrow morning, she said.
"We want our students to feel secure," said Alfano. "We want our staff to feel secure."

They use safe and secure as a form of lockdown,it makes the teacher lock the students in classrooms, doors locked, and not permitted to leave the classroom under any circumstances. It is used as a security measure

Ah yes, another "feel good" exercise to placate the liberal whiners. When is the administration going to get serious about student safety? A few well placed Tasers in the hands of responsible, mentally stable and trained faculty and/or staff would go a LONG way to mitigating the sort mass mayhem that has happened in schools recently. Proper treatment for mentally disturbed people would also be nice! Jail is not the answer for mental problems!

I say arm a few teachers (after intense training of using a firearm and passing a qualification shooting skills test). The other thing is enforcing the death penalty for and perhaps making any violent offense a death penalty as well as any crime against a child. This country needs to get off its rear end and act tough on criminals. I am saddened by this event at my former high school (not to mention all the other events that have ocurred at other schools). Banning guns is not the answer. Eliminating criminals from our system is a start, getting families to stay together is another, and bring God back to the class rooms! Anyone notice what has happened since the removal of God from schools? If kids or the parents of the kids do not wish to participate fine, they should not have to, but just look at the decline since God was expelled from school by a minority group called the ACLU. ACLU claims seperation of church and state.... re-read the intent of what the founding fathers of this country meant by no state run religion.

I heard Texas is pushing to allow their teachers and staff to carry a gun provided they pass all the ccw background checks. I have mixed feelings on that but I have to agree with what Earl said , also the checks to carry a ccw permit are more involved and might weed out some bad teachers while they are at it.

If teachers were carrying guns
If teachers were carrying guns, there wouldn't be school shootings. These sick cowards go where they know there will be defenseless people. Schools. Movie theaters. Since Israel armed their teachers in the 70's, school shootings are virtually non-existent. The evil people just strap on bombs now over there and blow up people; so that tells me that evil will find a way to inflict its sick acts upon its targets when it desires.
When are we going to wake up in this country and change our views on how we are allowed to protect ourselves from sick people? Taking guns away from people and not allowing them to protect themselves is criminal. And if people think that banning guns will suddenly cure the problem, I would like to point out that drugs are illegal, but people can readily obtain them. I bet the parents of those dead kids sure wished the janitor, the principal, or a teacher were armed; their kid may still be alive. And exactly what IS an assault weapon anyway? Anything can be considered an assault weapon. It takes human intervention to make an inanimate object become evil.
