Cuyahoga Falls City Council Seat up for Grabs
Democrat Diana Colavecchio vacated her Ward 5 Council seat in January. Her replacement will be appointed next week.
The Summit County Democratic Party will host a meeting on Feb. 6 to choose a new Ward 5 Cuyahoga Falls City Council member.
The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the Nervous Dog in Stow, said Council president Don Walters.
The Democratic Precinct Committee for Ward 5 will make the appointment, reports the Falls News Press.
Diana Colavecchio, a local attorney, vacated the Ward 5 seat in January to serve as the Stow Municipal Clerk of Courts.
Whoever is picked to fill Colavecchio's seat will finish out the remainder of her term, which ends in January 2014. To retain the seat, the council member will have to run for election in the fall, reports the Akron Beacon Journal.
Falls residents in Ward 5 who are interested in taking on the position should call Megan Moreland, the Summit County Democratic Party executive director, at 330-434-1311. Certain eligibility requirements apply, but the prospective candidate does not have to be a Democrat.
