Committees Address Shared Prisoner Confinement

Tallmadge could soon share space with Cuyahoga Falls.

Council committees met last night at 6:30 p.m. in the Natatorium. Tuesday's committee meetings addressed four topics.

A final decision for sharing prison cell space with Tallmadge will be made at next week's council meeting. The city of Tallmadge would pay $65 a day for each prisoner. This would be for food, supervision, confinement and board.

"They normally have between 60 to 80 prisoners a year," said Cuyahoga Falls Police Captain Jack Davis. "They currently use Macedonia. We’re a lot closer and more convenient for them.”

Cuyahoga Falls Police Department prisoners have priority over Tallmadge and will be rejected in case of full capacity or improper medical treatment prior to containment, according to the contract.

"We would inform them [Tallmadge] we were full," Davis said. "They have a backup with Macedonia."

The start date will be determined when council approves the terms and agreement between Tallmadge and Cuyahoga Falls.

Ward Map

The descriptions and ward map will be up for vote at next week's council meeting, as well.

The new ward boundaries and description will be in effect until after the 2020 Census.

At a Dec. 6 council meeting, councilman Don Walters had said each of the wards are experiencing changes, big and small. Not many residents will be reassigned to different wards.

Public and industrial improvements

The improvement of State Road between Graham and Steels Corners roads will be up for vote to move forward with the project. A wider street and sidewalks are the focus.

Council will also vote on using Kenmore Construction to repair the embankment on Akron-Peninsula Road north or Ira Road.
