Bridge Bomb Plot Case Suspect Pleads Guilty
Media reports say that Anthony Hayne, of Cleveland, pleaded guilty in federal court Wednesday morning.
The Akron Beacon Journal reports that one of the suspects in the alleged bridge bomb plot case has pleaded guilty.
Anthony Hayne, of Cleveland, was charged with an attempted use of an explosive, with conspiracy to use a weapon of mass destruction and with an attempt to use that weapon to destroy a highway carrying interstate commerce. WKYC reports that Hayne pleaded guilty to all three charges in federal court Wednesday morning. Sentencing has not yet been scheduled.
Hayne was arrested along with four other men on April 30 after allegedly attempting to blow up the state Route 82 bridge between Brecksville and Sagamore Hills in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
The other men involved were Brandon L. Baxter, of Lakewood; Joshua S. Stafford, of Cleveland; Connor C. Stevens, of Berea; and Douglas L. Wright, of Indianapolis.
All five originally pleaded not guilty.
The FBI identified Hayne as being from Cleveland, but Lakewood Patch found that Hayne also had ties to Lakewood, and both he and Baxter had ties to the Occupy Cleveland movement.
NewsNet5.com reports that Hayne has agreed to testify against the other suspects, if necessary.
