WATCH: Celebration Marches on With Bicentennial Parade

Light rain didn't deter organizations, businesses and residents from coming out Saturday morning for the much-anticipated Cuyahoga Falls Bicentennial parade.

People of all ages lined Portage Trail to watch the nearly two-hour long parade with more than 160 participants.

A fine mist fell for much of the parade, but that didn't stop Cuyahoga Falls residents from coming out and enjoying the continuation of Bicentennial celebrations.

To keep kids smiling and occupied, parade participants did their best to toss candy in the grass or hand deliver the sweets.

Nolan Bolser and Miranda Brandenburg, both 5 and all smiles, had all their pockets stuffed with candy and their hands holding miniature beach balls.

Cuyahoga Falls Officer Perry Chronister knows a few things about parades. He's worked four of them, including today, instead of marching in the Cuyahoga Falls alumni band.

"I love seeing the veterans," he said watching from his station at the intersection of Portage Trail and 2nd Street. "I went to parades with my grandfather as a child. He was a World War II veteran and the look he had when the veterans walked by has a special place in my heart."

There were plenty of veterans, police and fire trucks, marching bands and graduating Cuyahoga Falls High School classes in the parade.

Good question, MaryAnn. I'd give the Mayor's Office a call at 330-971-8200. One of Mayor Robart's secretaries should be able to help.

Who won the parade float contest? Is there a picture of the winner?

This picture is the float from the class of 1969, NOT 1970. The class of 1969 worked on this float for 5 months. Please change the caption to read Class of 1969. Thank you.
